Scott Gwinnell is an award-winning pianist, composer/arranger, and educator born in the Detroit Metropolitan area. The Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra has performed at the Detroit Jazz Festival, and continually plays at the top clubs and festivals in Metro-Detroit. In addition to the soundtrack for Vincent van Gogh: 70 Days in Laois, Scott has 5 records to his name and is a 13-time award-winning BMI composer. Scott has played on over 30 recordings, and written over 400 compositions and arrangements from solo piano to symphony orchestra. Finally, Scott is an inspiring educator and influencer, teaching jazz music at numerous universities and colleges in the Midwest. He is also the director of Jazz Education for Music Hall and creator and director of the Detroit Jazz Workshop, Detroit’s largest private summer jazz workshop.
For this imaginative, original soundtrack, Gwinnell was awarded “Outstanding Jazz Composer” at the 2021 Detroit Music Awards, adding another accolade to an illustrious body of work. As a master tunesmith, Gwinell’s melodies are immediate, and this gives you room to listen. These impressionistic sketches for piano and saxophone take their shape with seeming surprise. Like Van Gogh’s paintings, this score is a study in color and harmony, and it will bring the listener solace, meaning, and joy.
